I would also suggest using a free SEO plugin like Yoast or something similar. It can focus on some SEO related aspects of the content that may not be visible to the an untrained eye. as a bonus, you can also check how your content rates on its readability scale if you are interested.

I strongly believe that Meta Description has a big role in affecting CTR. Although it might not be a Google ranking factor, yet it still,in a way, indirectly affects CTR.

Another thing I would add is to write primarily for audience and secondarily for Google (or whatever search engine you are targeting). SEO is the make up you put on the content to make it attractive to search engine.

I also make sure I include social media schema and associating the site with all social accounts. When the site comes up on Google, the knowledge graph may also show all social media posts as well as reviews from Google My Business.

This is very important for small businesses where the maps help people find brick and mortar companies.

Caching pages for faster sites and using https (secure site certificate) is also helpful nowadays.

I should definitely send this to some of the people I have to work with sometimes, especially the part about “go easy on the keywords”. You wouldn’t believe how many people I still see writing “content” where every other word is some keyword, and even worse, they put every keyword in bold tags as if it’s still 2008 or something. Insanity.
